Patients across the country are filing lawsuits, claiming the manufacturers failed to adequately warn doctors and consumers about this serious risk.

If you or a loved one experienced vision problems or was diagnosed with NAION after using Ozempic or similar GLP-1 drugs, you may have legal options to pursue compensation. Reach out as soon as possible so we can assist you with filing before your state's deadlines.

FAQs:

What are GLP-1 drugs?

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) drugs and GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) refer to the same class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. These drugs work by mimicking the natural GLP-1 hormone in the body, which helps regulate blood sugar, stimulate insulin production, and slow digestion. Common GLP-1 drugs include:
  • Ozempic® (semaglutide)
  • Wegovy® (semaglutide)
  • Rybelsus® (semaglutide)
  • Trulicity® (dulaglutide)
  • Mounjaro® (tirzepatide)

What are the associated health risks and side effects?

Most notably, recent studies have found a potential increased risk of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) associated with GLP-1 medication use. NAION is a rare eye condition that reduces blood flow to the optic nerve, often causing sudden, irreversible vision loss. NAION is different from diabetic retinopathy, which is a separate diabetes-related eye condition. While NAION affects the optic nerve, diabetic retinopathy damages the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, due to chronic high blood sugar levels. Diabetic retinopathy typically develops gradually, causing vision changes like blurred vision or floaters, whereas NAION tends to happen abruptly and cause permanent vision loss. Recognizing this distinction is critical for patients, as the underlying causes, progression, and legal implications of these conditions are very different.

Other severe GLP-1 drug side effects may include gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary aspiration, and persistent vomiting.

What happens in a legal consultation?

During a free consultation, we’ll discuss medical and treatment history, explain the legal process, and discuss the best steps for joining the lawsuit.

How long do I have to file a claim?

Every state sets its own statute of limitations, which limits how long you have to take legal action. Delaying could put your eligibility at risk, so it’s crucial to act promptly.

How long will the lawsuit take?

The duration of a lawsuit can vary widely depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the number of parties involved, legal procedures, and court schedules. Some cases resolve quickly, while others take several months or even years to reach a final outcome.

What kind of compensation can I expect?

Estimated Depo-Provera lawsuit settlement amounts could range between $100,000 and $500,000 or more based on the circumstances of each case, such as tumor severity, quality of life impact, medical treatment costs, and whether the individual has experienced long-term or permanent damage.
